NEW COMPACT OIL SEPARATOR FROM CASTEL

If you are looking for a compact solution for your systems, choose Castel oil separators, today they are even more compact and economical.
With a height of only 250 mm, this compact oil separator guarantees excellent operating performance at a very competitive price.
Applications
Castel oil separators are designed for installation in commercial refrigeration systems and civil and industrial air conditioning plants using HCFC, HFC, HFO refrigerant fluids. (For more details please contact Castel Technical department or visit us at www.castel.it.)
The oil separator extracts the oil mixed with the compressed gas and returns it to the oil chamber or compressor crankcase, providing efficient lubrication of its moving parts. Also, by eliminating or reducing the oil film on the condenser and evaporator heat exchange surfaces, this provides a high coefficient of heat exchange in this equipment.
Structure
The OS540 Separator body consists of a steel tube of sufficient thickness, also the end caps are made of steel.
Solder joints are machined from steel bar.
The internal mechanism is simple to ensure smooth long-term operation.
Appropriate metal grates placed at the inlet and outlet create ideal conditions for separating the oil from the refrigerant with the rapid decrease in gas velocity.
A float mechanism located at the bottom of the tank returns the oil to the compressor.
The base of the separator also includes a chamber to collect any iron debris. A permanent magnet traps this dirt to prevent them from damaging or clogging the operation of the float controlled needle valve.
Setup
Oil separators OS540 should be installed in the discharge line between the compressor and the condenser only in a vertical position and as close as possible to the compressor.
It is recommended to install a check valve (see Castel catalog for details) between the condenser and the oil separator to prevent refrigerant from returning to the oil separator during the closed cycle.
The oil separator performs best when operating at or near the compressor discharge temperature.
If possible, avoid installation in places that may cause cooling of the separator body and condensation of the refrigerant. If this is not possible, it is recommended to equip the separator with suitable solutions (insulation, band heater or other) to prevent condensation of the refrigerant in the system.
Before installing the oil separator, add the amount of lubricant specified in the table as the first oil fill. Proper pre-filling of this oil is very important for good operation of the separator and to avoid damaging the float mechanism. Always use the same type of lubricant found in the compressor crankcase.
Depending on the layout of the cooling system , connect the oil return line to one of the following locations:
- Directly to the compressor crankcase.
- To the suction line in front of the compressor or in front of the receiver , if equipped.
- To the oil tank, if the system has a centralized oil control system and oil distribution system to the compressors.
It is recommended to install a fluid gauge (see Castel catalog for details) in the oil return line to check the correct operation of the oil separator.
