It is now possible to increase the performance of the cooling system using Castel motorized ball valves. Next generation cooling systems are increasingly technologically advanced, seeing an increase in sensors and controls that are effective in all parts of the circuit, managing different areas of the system as needed. A ball valve today no longer serves the purpose of dividing a part of the system in case of failure or maintenance, but plays an important role in controlling efficiency. The ball valve today functions almost as a solenoid valve with less pressure drop. (it is possible to install a smaller ball valve with the same Kv), is two-flow and tolerates higher temperatures than a solenoid valve. To take advantage of this new task, ball valve can be used for heat recovery, bypass of heat exchangers, defrosting for flooded heat exchangers, etc. It should be controlled by an intelligent system that can perform operations that are not possible by relying on people like . Castel overcomes this technological challenge by developing and delivering tools to its customers to make the most of the solutions technology offers today. Castel offers a wide range of ball valves that can be installed in commercial refrigeration systems and for civil and industrial air conditioning. Ball valves are available in two- and three-way versions.

2 WAY BALL VALVE

Ball shutter valves can be installed in all parts of a cooling system in accordance with the working pressure, temperature and Kv factor (flow coefficient).

Special design of Shutter Castel valves:

ensures the internal pressure balance when the valve is closed

Allows bidirectional flow of refrigerant

explosion proof body.

Arc welding of the body and gaskets mounted on the body provide perfect hermetic sealing of the valve.

Castel has developed three different ball valve families based on the type of refrigerant fluid used:

- HCFC, HFC, HFO: Connections from 1/4” to 4.1/4”. Maximum working pressure 45 bar.

- HFC, HFO, HC: Connections from 1/4” to 3.5/8”. The maximum working pressure is between 35 and 50 bar.

- CO2 (R744): Connections from 1/4” to 73mm. The maximum working pressure is between 60 and 140 bar. The material of the connections is copper, K65 or stainless steel and depends on the working pressures. 2-way ball valves are available in versions with or without charge connection and can be full port or reduced port. All ball valves are helium tested to detect stem leakage or seat leak when valve is closed. Using suitable flange adapters, valves can be connected with an electric actuator to remotely control the valves. Castel has a wide variety of actuators that can be used. The choice of actuator depends on the size of the valve and the supply voltage (24VAC or 230VAC). Working torque is from 10 to 100Nm. It is possible to use the auxiliary contacts option to set the valve to all positions from 0 to 90°

3-WAY BALL VALVE

Ball cap 3-way valves act as diverter valves that do not allow bidirectional flow of refrigerant.

The entrance is always in the central position and the two exits are in the lateral positions.

These valves are directly coupled to the actuators and do not require a flanged adapter between the two parts.

Castel has developed three different ball valve families based on the type of refrigerant fluid used:

- HCFC, HFC, HFO: Connections from 7/8” to 1.5/8”. Maximum working pressure 45 bar.

- HFC, HFO, HC: Connections from 7/8” to 1.5/8”. Maximum working pressure 50 bar.

- CO2 (R744): Connections from 7/8” to 42mm”. The maximum working pressure is between 80 and 140 bar. The material from which the connections are made is copper, K65 or stainless steel and depends on the working pressures.

3-way ball valves are supplied with the actuator and will be selected based on the refrigerant fluid, operating pressure and actuator power supply available in 24VAC or 230VAC versions.

To achieve maximum flexibility, Castel has also developed 3-way ball valves (without actuator) with manual action.

Castel has produced a special version for customers using BELIMO brand actuators. The ball valve is supplied with an adapter compatible with the BELIMO actuator (actuator not supplied by Castel).
